Pelosi: Salvation Army Must Hire People Who Can't Speak English?

Pelosi: Salvation Army Must Hire People Who Can%26#039;t Speak English

Have you heard about Nancy Pelosi%26#039;s latest maneuver? It%26#039;s been less than a week since the smackdown with Hillary Clinton and Eliot Spitzer over driver%26#039;s licenses for illegal aliens. %26quot;Now House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has moved to kill an amendment that would protect employers from federal lawsuits for requiring their workers to speak English. Among the employers targeted by such lawsuits: the Salvation Army.%26quot; This is John Fund at the Wall Street Journal. %26quot;Sen. Lamar Alexander, a moderate Republican from Tennessee, is dumbstruck that legislation he views as simple common sense would be blocked. He noted that the full Senate passed his amendment to shield the Salvation Army by 75-19 last month, and the House followed suit with a 218-186 vote just this month. %26#039;I cannot imagine that the framers of the 1964 Civil Rights Act intended to say that it%26#039;s discrimination for a shoe shop owner to say to his or her employee, %26quot;I want you to be able to speak America%26#039;s common language on the job,%26quot;%26#039; he told the Senate last Thursday. But that%26#039;s exactly what the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is trying to do. In March the EEOC sued the Salvation Army because its thrift store in Framingham, Mass., required its employees to speak English on the job. The requirement was clearly posted and employees were given a year to learn the language. The EEOC claimed the store had fired two Hispanic employees for continuing to speak Spanish on the job. It said that the firings violated the law because the English-only policy was not %26#039;relevant%26#039; to job performance or safety.%26quot;

So the bottom line is that Pelosi is trying to force, with the power and force of the federal government, she%26#039;s trying to force the Salvation Army to hire people who cannot speak English. I%26#039;m telling you, calm down, calm down. This immigration stuff, the Democrats and their bud%26#039;s in the Drive-By Media do not understand how volatile this is for them. Let them keep on.

Pelosi: Salvation Army Must Hire People Who Can%26#039;t Speak English?
I beleive I%26#039;ve heard about polls showing ~70% Americans are against the illegal alien amnesty, wouldn%26#039;t you think they%26#039;d be turned off by this manuever? Yup, Pelosi can keep up with her failed first 100 days strategy!
Reply:Well... look where it%26#039;s coming from.. the Democrats... why are you surprised? They always pander to special groups... grant special privileges to the %26quot;oppressed%26quot; in the name of %26quot;diversity%26quot; They buy votes by granting favors or promising (but never really delivering) favors to all sorts of special interest. Most democrats vote their own pocket books with blinders on as to what other freedoms are taken from them.
Reply:I swear that Pelosi must be certifiably insane. If the Dems know what is good for their party they will remove all these far left wing lunatics from office. Pelosi, Reid, Frank, Kennedy, the list goes on and on. Lieberman is a good guy and so is Zell Miller but they are the %26quot;old school%26quot; democrat, before the party became infiltrated by nut jobs. Zell%26#039;s book %26quot; A Deficit of Decency%26quot; is a great read.
Reply:The Salvation Army is a church. They are also private a employer. The Salvation Army thrift stores are run by the Adult Rehabilitation Centers in those communities. They hire only legal residents with proper documentation. They do not fire anyone without at least 3 reprimands. I am not familiar with the policies of the particular thrift store to which you are referring but, obviously this is about something more than just The Salvation Army. If this case ever gets to court they will probably win since they have the resources to hire some very good attorneys.
Reply:Isn%26#039;t it a fact that people are not %26quot;required%26quot; to speak English in the United States? What if the Salvation Army wanted to hire someone who cannot speak at all. . .and can only communicate through Sign Language. . .would they be excluded too? Personally I enjoy living in a free nation that does not require me to speak one language over another.
Reply:Amazing how all non-profits and government agencies must hire minorities = blacks, Mexicans, Indians, Arabs and even White Jews

but Asians are consider toooo white
