I have to work on site with a bloke who%26#039;s a total waster, 90 percent of the jobs he talks about doing are just hot air. He cant read a tape make mortar or concrete do make simple banksman signals(thats signals to the plant machine operatives). He cant use a trowel or lay a bed of mortar, he cant do any of the simple things a general site labourer should be able to do and i%26#039;m sick of having to fix his balls ups. I%26#039;m skilled labour/chargehand fully accredited and passed by the construction board. I can bricklay weld do joinery steel erect fabricate and do mechanics advanced first aid cert and fire safety cert included and a few NVQ and city and guilds thrown in for good measure as well. Because hes full time for the firm i%26#039;m still a temp he thinks he can tell me what to do, i just ignore him but hes starting to piss me off all i have to do is flash my CSR card to show him up for the wanker that he is. Given the chance in my shoes would you do it?

Tips for keeping jeans folded up and under at the bottom?

I got a new pair and wanted to wear them tonight so I don%26#039;t have time to get my jeans hemmed properly.

I don%26#039;t want to fold them up on the outside because I don%26#039;t want a cuff on them with my shoes (it%26#039;ll look weird) and whenever i fold them into the inside they keep coming down.

So besides using some safety pins anyone have tips/tricks for keeping your pants folded up at the bottom of the legs without actually getting them hemmed? Wll choose an answer, thanks!

This is going to sound funny, but you can actually staple them, I%26#039;ve done it before, if you do it in the right spot you won%26#039;t see the staple. Or you can just pick a different pair of shoes? I always fold my jeans at the bottom, but they%26#039;re skinny jeans and i usually wear flats or converse with them...
Reply:You can go to wal-mart or a store like that and get some hemming tape. It%26#039;s easy to take down so you can get them hemmed properly later on, but for now it%26#039;ll work. All you do is lay the strip of hemming tape along where you want it hemmed, then iron it. If you%26#039;re afraid that%26#039;ll stay too permanently, just get some double-sided tape and run it along the bottom and tape to the inside of the pants. Both are quick and easy solutions.
Reply:there%26#039;s adhesive hem tape you can even find at Walmart that will work great and it%26#039;s quick too (I sometimes use this since practically every pants/jeans I have are long)

Reply:im 5%26#039;0 so i understand your dillema...what i do is fold the jeans (on the inside) where I want them to stay, then I iron them (the folds) like 15 times....starch will help...they stay up when i do tht....
Reply:I use a bobby pin on the inside, or sometimes a safety pin. Sometimes if you wash your pants and let them %26quot;hang dry%26quot; they will stay by themselves.

I agree with everything Arlene G said. It sounds like you have pretty much everything covered for the baby so don%26#039;t forget about yourself. This is coming from experience because no one even told me to take any of those things for myself. My poor husband was always having to run to the store for extra things.

I would suggest bringing something to keep all the paperwork in. You will have lots and it%26#039;s so easy to just put them in one place so you aren%26#039;t worried about losing or forgetting them.

Also have some healthy snacks for when the baby comes home because I know I wasn%26#039;t able to eat for more than 5 mins at a time :). Escpecially because she had colic.

You might want to get some baby gas drops just in case.

And this is a personal choice but I now have a wrap for the baby and wish I had looked into them sooner so maybe you could check out those. But other than that it seems as if you are all set. Congratulations!

Even if baby is going to be sleeping in your room for awhile, it%26#039;s nice to have when they%26#039;re napping during the day, so you can get other things done around and house, and still be able to hear when he%26#039;s up....but your list so far is pretty complete, kudos!! Only other things I can think of would be maybe a baby sling or carrier?? The baby sling was a life saver with my last baby....

Most people do. Which is why I always buy gifts for the new mother instead of baby clothes.

The breast feeding pillow is good but I%26#039;d recommend a body pillow, too. Even if you have the easiest delivery in the world you are going to be sore. A body pillow is a great thing for supporting all those achey bits and using between your knees.

You also need a donut pillow. And Tucks medicated pads. The achiest bit is going to be your very thing and it is going to love you if you treat it tenderly by sitting on that donut pillow and putting a nice cool Tucks pad in your undies to take the sting out.

I don%26#039;t know what you have in your bag but you must have pajamas. Not some fiddley nursing gown with bows and ribbons...but a pair of comfortable sweat pant type pants (better to keep those humongous pads for the after bleeding in place) and a top that buttons down the front for easy access.

If you are a bath type of person then get yourself lots of smelly girly bath salt type things, too.

And snack food. Nursing is going to make you hungry. And hospital food sucks as much as it ever did. Stock up or make a list for your husband for when the event happens.

Ice packs would be a good thing to have on hand, too. Your breasts are going to swell up like balloons when your milk comes in and for some people this is not a pleasant experience. For some people (like me all 5 times) is hurts like and SOB and feels like I%26#039;m carting around a couple of bruised boulders. You could get lucky there though.

That%26#039;s about all I can think of. Good luck.
Reply:bottle sterilizer (microwave steamer) comes in handy unless you want to boil them all the time.... , you do have covers for the changing table pad, right? Boppy makes a great one sold at babiesrus.com with a quick clean middle so you dont have to wash the whole thing when it gets dirty.....
Reply:Definitely get a cool mist humidifier. It%26#039;s the best thing for baby%26#039;s little stuffy noses. Also, breast pads, lanolin, sterilizer (Medela makes a great sterilizing bag that can be used like 10 times... You fill it with 2 oz. of water and your pump parts or bottles, stick it in the microwave, and ta-da - sterilized!), Medela quick clean wipes for pumping anywhere where you can%26#039;t immediately wash the pump parts, a ring sling or wrap or mei tai, and don%26#039;t forget your boppy! That was my lifesaver when in the hospital. You%26#039;re so sore that bending in different ways can really hurt and the Boppy really helps.
Reply:I would say you have more than enough, lol. Only things I can think of is lots of diapers and wipes! You may also want to get a cool mist vaporizer or humidifier, helps the baby breath easier. Maybe you should also check into some baby medicines. At Walmart, they have a little kit that has things such as infant tylenol, mylicon drops and diaper rash ointment. All of that stuff comes in very, very handy. Good luck with the baby!!
Reply:Wait until your baby arrives to get anything else. Your baby will have his/her own likes and dislikes and you don%26#039;t want to be left with a lot of things you won%26#039;t use. For example, some babies only like one brand of bottles/teats and others don%26#039;t like a swing or bouncer. There is an endless amount of baby merchandise available and you don%26#039;t need to buy all of it!

A SwaddleMe by Kiddopotomus – they make it so wonderfully easy to swaddle your little one (which they LOVE) and are only $10 at Babies R Us

Pack of cloth diapers or cheap receiving blankets to use as burping cloths

Little velcro booties – socks never stay on!

Gerber makes little newborn hats in a 3-pack which my daughter wears EVERY day (found them at K-Mart)

Depending on where you live, a cover for the carseat to protect baby from the wind or cold is great. Kiddopotomus also makes one that I ordered from Target

Boppy pillow for breastfeeding is great

I am 24 weeks pregnant and work standing up 5 hours a shift. Work wont let me use a chair or a stool, as its against OH%26amp;S (fire safety?) the problem is that after about an hour my feet hurt, but he time I get home they feel like they are on fire, I have good shoes, but they just dont do it anymore, any suggestions on what I could do?

Check with your human resources department about maternity policies to be sure you%26#039;re not being mistreated. Schedule a time to talk to your boss about possible solutions, explain your problem and if need be, see you doctor for a doctor%26#039;s note. Best of luck!

And I am a safety director at a company, I wouldn%26#039;t think that a chair or stool would be in violation of fire safety unless it was in front of a fire exit or was an obstruction in an aisle way leading to the fire exit.

I was pregnant w/ my 1st son and worked as a cashier and my feet and legs would hurt and swell after a few hours. My job let me sit on a stool. I can see it being a fire hazard if the chair is at the end of a table or blocking an exit but other than that I have never heard of a job not letting a pregnant women be more comfortable by sitting in a chair. They obviously don%26#039;t care about you or your health during your pregnancy. If you%26#039;re having leg/feet problems now and they won%26#039;t let you have a stool imagine 4 more months from now when all the weight it in your legs. You would hate to end up w/ Preeclampsia. Your job isn%26#039;t worth the loss or injury of your baby.

You can mange your leg/feet pain by:

To manage or relieve leg swelling during pregnancy:

* Take breaks during the day when you can sit with your feet up.

* While sleeping, lie on your side or elevate your legs slightly with pillows.

* Don%26#039;t cross your legs when you sit.

* Avoid standing or sitting with your feet on the floor for long periods.

* Stay cool because heat can make the swelling worse.

* Swim or walk in a pool at least 4 feet deep. The buoyancy of the water helps lift the baby off your pelvis.

It%26#039;s the #1 thing most people need to do for safety, plus it helps your gas mileage, plus it helps your tires last longer and you know they cost more than a pair of Manolo%26#039;s.

Also, take a penny and put it in the tread so Abe Lincoln%26#039;s head is touching the tire. Can you see the top of his head? If so, it%26#039;s time for new tires. Don%26#039;t get the cheap-o%26#039;s, it%26#039;s just like shoes - you pay for quality but when you pay a few bucks more, you%26#039;ll thank me later.

Actually yesterday and I had a slow leak, found a nail and pulled it out and fixed it myself. I checked them last about a week ago. I Usually check them every other time I get gas. Which comes to about every 10 days to check them. My truck is new so I know my tires are new.

My boyfriend has type 1 diabetes and because of it has never been to the beach. His parents just never took him because they were not really big on the beach, and because of his feet safety.

I am a major beach person, love going to Hawaii and we live near enough to the beach to go many times a year. I want so badly to go with him but he says he cannot because of his feet. I understand that, but I was wondering if anybody has suggestions about traveling beachy things. We are planning a honeymoon right now and I cannot imagine not going somewhere where there is a beach (lake/ocean, something).I want to lay around in our bathing suits, relax in the warmth, have that long walk on the beach. I feel bad about him never experiencing the beach or pool kind of atmosphere.

Does anybody have any good ideas of places to go things to do that are warm fun and romantic, but he can still feel comfortable wearing shoes and socks? I would appreciate any thoughts at all.

Poor guy! Really, the man%26#039;s parent have total control of him. Tell him to relax, we%26#039;re goin to the beach! I%26#039;m a certified SCUBA diver/instructor and have had diabetes 32 years! I know I don%26#039;t watch my feet like I should, but I go barefoot every chance I get, and wear flip flops 24/7! I hate wearing shoes and socks. Sounds to me like you need to do some investigative research. Familiarize yourself with type 1 juvenile diabetes as much as you can. That way when you are married, you%26#039;ll know just as much as him. It%26#039;s not a complicated disease.
Reply:The beach is GREAT for a diabetics feet! Are you kidding me? The sand, the water, the rocks, and sun are what your body needs to stimulate your feet and keep them healthy.

Reply:Unless your boyfriend has neuropathy in his feet, there is no reason that he shouldn%26#039;t be able to walk barefoot on a beach. Walking on the beach barefoot it great for diabetics as it naturally helps scrape all of the cruddy skin from the bottom of their feet.
Reply:That is so sad.I have to admit that I am a Type 1 diabetic (for over 20 years) and have never taken good care of my feet. I go barefoot too much, including the beach :( That being said...I did a little research to see if I could find anything to help you.....

Diabetics should never walk barefoot, even in-doors. Something as minor as stubbing a toe on a coffee table or bumping a soccer ball at the park can lead to a serious foot ulcer. While at the beach, seashells, glass or debris from the ocean can puncture the skin and cause serious infections that can be perpetuated by diabetes. For diabetics with circulation problems or neuropathy when sensation in the feet is diminished, walking barefoot on hot pavement is especially dangerous and can lead to severe burns and infection. There are a variety of closed-toe beach shoes on the market that help protect feet against these types of injuries. Reply:Wow, his parents really messed up his head. Yes, you do have to be careful of foot injury, but if he wears sandels he should be just fine. Many, many diabetics (even bad diabetics) go to the beach all the time. Just have him wear sandels, and if he wants to get in the water, go ahead !!! If he had neuropathy really bad in the feet and had no feeling, I could understand it, but if he doesn%26#039;t, he will be fine.
Reply:I grew up in NJ and we never went barefoot on the beach due to the garbage and hypodermic needles washed up n the sand. Wore sneakers and nowadays there are so many Tevas, Crocs, water shoes avaliable at all sporting stores so he ought to be able to go.

Warning! How old is this guy? Find out what other hang-ups he has before you marry him! He sounds like he is still under parent%26#039;s control- could spell trouble for you...

Work in Progress, Needs Advice?

Please could you read through my story, I understand if you don%26#039;t have time, I%26#039;d just like advice, it%26#039;s an opening chapter, and definately not the final draft, the ending is somewhat rushed, but it gives the gist of it, but could do with a bit more describing and coversation with the wife.

Spelling is unimportant, I have spell checked once about half way through, and I%26#039;m bound to have missed things or used wrong tenses, sorry I will fix these, I just wanted to get the words down.

I understand also the whole, Mr. landon, Mr. brown can get boring, this will be worked on, first names will be brought in to make reading and typing easier.

It%26#039;s just a bit of fun, nothing serious, something I%26#039;ve worked on for a few months, adding to whenever I get the chance around college.

Also the the words when copied in from notebook, got a put out of alignment sorry about this.

was unbearable, it brought me back to my days at University, trying to revise when everyone

was of no use to me in this situation. I quickened my pace so I didn%26#039;t spend more than a

couple of seconds out of the light from the street lamps, which where the only thing

allowing me to continue, otherwise I would be in complete darkness. Although the noise was

unnerving, it wasn%26#039;t close yet, which meant I had time to examine my surroundings. Probably

not the best thing to do, maybe I should have been running away, or even confronting it. I

mean, come on I%26#039;m thirty two and running away from a noise, it could have been a bunch of

shot off for the other buildings. Before I knew it I%26#039;d lost my footing and got tangled up in

bin bags, then I was lying face flat against the concrete. Had I been alone I would have

sympathised with my self and laughed it off, But as I said %26#039;had I been alone%26#039;. Now don%26#039;t

forget this noise was still following me, it%26#039;s not like I%26#039;d forgotten and was checking out

the shops for offers, or the restaurants so I could find a cheap meal deal for my upcoming

anniversary.%26quot;

Mr Landon then came back into the room carrying a tray with a fresh cup of tea on, oblivious

to the peculiar activity which had just occurred.

and faster. It was a race for the man I had helped moments before. I arrived first and

attempted to drag him away he wouldn%26#039;t budge like he was stuck on the spot. There was one

street light left until the noise would be on us. The ground was shaking and the thud had

been joined by a gentle groaning that felt rather pleasant compared to all the other noises

I%26#039;d heard that night.%26quot;

%26quot;From out of the shadows a large figure strode out and stopped in the light in all it%26#039;s

glory. It was a giant muscular figure with hands and feet at least four times bigger than my

own. It%26#039;s skin was almost flurecant in the light, it had a thin layer of fur growing on it%26#039;s

arms, legs and all over it%26#039;s back. It had a greeny brown tinge to it%26#039;s skin accompanied by a

pale yellow chest. It%26#039;s claws where like curved blades able to slice through metal. It%26#039;s

face was still clouded in darkness as it was taller than the lamppost.%26quot;

%26quot;The man gazed at it in disgust like it was the most vile thing he%26#039;d ever seen but, I felt

as though there was something else another reason why he looked at it the way he did. He

raised his hand so it was pointed at the creatures face, and let out an almighty scream.%26quot;

%26quot;Light shot from his hand and struck the monster square in the face pushing it back with

immense strength. It struggled to push it self back and force itself forward. With a flick

of the hand to the left the creature was sent into the front of a building, causing bricks

and glass to fall to the floor around the creature. I gasped at what I just saw, one man

just threw a creature into a building and not flinch at all. It must have been a regular

occurrence to the man as he%26#039;d already began to stroll towards the creature by time I got

myself back to normal. He pulled out a small dagger from his right pocket and took it out of

it%26#039;s protective sleeve. He raised it high above the creature but stopped dead in his tracks,

as a second screech bellowed from above the building.%26quot;

%26quot;I looked up to see what it was, but I already knew what to expect based on what I just saw.

I always tell myself to not think that everything will happen the way I expect it too.

Expect the unexpected. Unfortunately at times like this you don%26#039;t have time to think about

anything and that%26#039;s why I ended up getting thrown through a shop window. As I lay there

watching this giant, muscular creature casually walk over to where I lay, I could do

nothing. I couldn%26#039;t move my arms or legs, Fear had me pinned down, because this was the

first time I had seen it%26#039;s face. The creature lowered it%26#039;s head from out of the darkness and

it%26#039;s grotesque form took shape in front of me. Eyes the size of a clenched fist targeted

on me from behind scraggy hair that flopped in front of the creatures face, and being blown

about by the gust of air shooting out of it%26#039;s nostrils. Fangs curved out of it%26#039;s mouth like

tusks, but where as sharp as knifes, except the left one which had broken off half way down.

It%26#039;s mouth opened and closed as though it was simulating eating me.%26quot;

%26quot;As it craned it%26#039;s neck through the window, it%26#039;s breath awakened my senses and I found

myself able to move again, but before I could run, the creatures hand was already around my

waist and pulling me from the debris of the smashed up window. Back in the street, suspended

upside-down five metres from the ground I took my chance to look around for the stranger I%26#039;d

helped and in turn had saved my own life, but he was no where to be seen, the only thing I

could make out in the distance was the other creature still knocked out at the side of road.

Was this the end for me, or will my luck change. With in a split second that question was

answered.%26quot;

%26quot;From out of the darkness a flash of red slammed into the side of the creature sending it

sliding down the street. As I stared closer at the flash of red, my eyes widened in surprise

as just down the street was a red double decker bus. The creature was now stumbling back up,

it looked at the bus with complete confusion, obviously it hadn%26#039;t seen one before other wise

it would have known they are hardly dangerous.%26quot;

%26quot;It seemed to be thinking over whether or not to attack me, or the bus, as though it had

learnt from this. I was shocked at my own thoughts and prejudices, just because it wasn%26#039;t

human I believed it wasn%26#039;t as intelligent but this proved me wrong, this creature wasn%26#039;t

stupid and it was now finding another way to get me. The creature called out as though it

was preparing to make it%26#039;s move. When the whole street was lit up flames engulfing the

creature from behind. The creature began to run around fiercly trying to put out the fire

but there was no way for it to be put out in the street.%26quot;

%26quot;The buildings had caught a blaze, windows where shattering up and down the street. Rubbish that lay piled up

at the side of the road was quickly disappearing engulfed by the flames and smoke which was pouring out of

the buildings and ontothe street. The bus had slowly began to melt, no one came off and before I knew it all

that was left was a large puddle of red liquid in the middle of the street. Had no one been driving or had

they perished inside and now where nothing more than a puddle of remains mixed in with those of the bus.%26quot;

%26quot;Looking around me I realized I was surrounded by the flames, theyre was no way out, this time I felt for

sure help would not arrive, no more buses would come bursting through the flames to pick me up and drive me

to safety, no strange men with glowing palms would fly down and away again with me in theyre arms. The idea

of this being a dream once again crossed my mind, before a blinding light in front of me emerged from the

fire, as it got close the light split into two, on either side of the lights two more pairs appeared, heading

straight towards me. Help had arrived, in what form I had no idea, but fear struck me, these lights where not

slowing down and if they kept going would hit me, I ran%26quot;

%26quot;Towards the flames was the only way, as far to the side as I could go, I was still in line with the lights

furthest to the right, terrified I curled up, placing my head on my knees, tears running down my face. This

nightmare was going to be over, the price I%26#039;d have to pay though, was my life. I closed my eyes and covered

my ears, I didnt want to see or hear the lights approach ready to kill me. However my efforts to drown out

any sound where crushed when the sound of tyre%26#039;s screeching filled my ears. I jumped up onto my feet, and

quickly scanned my surroundings. The buildings had disappeared, the road had been replaced with the M25, the

lights where those of car headlights, driving down the lanes towards me. I dashed to the side of the motorway

just escaping the path of an oncoming lorry.%26quot;

%26quot;I kept thinknig to my self, how had I survived again, I should have died at least three times that night,

but there I was perfectly safe at the side of the M25, and just a few miles from my house.%26quot;

theyre where numerous attempts on your life, all failing, I am yet to find out who aided you that night, but

Mr. Brown lept at Mr. Landon, over the coffee table pushing him into his chair. Grabbing him by the throat,

Mr. Brown attempted to strangle him. Mr. Landon Pulled off a succesful kick to the unprotected crotch of Mr.

Brown. Falling to the ground in pain, Mr. Landon took this time to strike back and protect himself in his own

house. Grabbing a conveniently placed lamp from the small table next to the chair he had almost lost his life

in, he strook down hard, after the previous events that had happened to him Mr. Landon was not taking any

chances and strook Mr. brown on the head a further three times. A blood spattered Mr. Landon stood over the

body motionless. His wife came rushing through the kitchen after hearing the fight going on. Dropping her

book she had been attempting to read in the bedroom, she dashed for the phone, without asking her husband

about the incident, she called for the police. She had feared for the past few days her husband would do

something drastic after telling him she thought he%26#039;s been out all night drinking, rather than fight9ing for

his life, and he had punched her for it. the bruise was theyre but her tangerine cxomplexion from cheap

beauty products had covered it enough to not cause any suspicions among family and friends.

The minutes leadin up to Mr. Landon%26#039;s arrest, went slowly, his wife sat cradling her husband in her arms, as

he wept in disgust of his own actions. Rage had filled him the moment he struck Mr. Brown, he tried to

persuade his wife, he hadn%26#039;t actually done it, something had taken over him and he had no recollection of the

event. He tried to explain how he had wanted to kill his wife and he was only protecting her. She knew what

had happened and that he was trying to hide the truth from her, the thing is she had started to believe his

tale about his mysterious night, after all every time she heard him talk about it, she saw how terrified he

was about losing his life, how confused he was about the events and how all he had wanted to do was get home

and be with her.

She now began to regret ringing for the police, thinking about what to do, would she actually hand over her

husband to be sent down for murder, although it was self defense, the courts could find his mental state

unnerving and lock him up for his own good. Her concentration was lost when a loud knock from the door echoed

through the room followed by.

%26quot;Just a moment%26quot; She shrieked back. Getting to her feet she pulled up her husband looking him the eye and told

him to run.

The backdoor was the only way out, either that or through a window. Mr. Landon dashed into the kitchen almost

slipping on the freshly mopped floor. He burst through the door, without looking to see if he was being

chased, he climbed over the garden fence, and sped off into the woods. Mrs. Landon, got her act together, and

confronted the police, in her calmest voice, as not to arouse suspicion, she explained how they had just

missed him, and he had ran down the street, knowing full well he had infact gone in the opposite direction.

She then gave a fake description of her husband, but only the basic information, giving the excuse she was

still in shock and details of what had happened where blurry, so blurry that giving a description of the man

she loved was hard to do. The Medics pushed past after spotting Mr. Brown lying in a pool of blood, frantic

shouting from both police and medics, filled the house, everything was happening so quickly, Mrs. Landon

could not focus on one thing for long before being asked another question by both groups of people. She

panicked, and slummped onto her knees, leaning against the front door, tears streaming down her face, she

sobbed, saying nothing,she just watched.

Not bad, I liked your realistic dialog. You need to edit it carefully for spelling/grammar. Stupid things like your/you%26#039;re can be distracting. If you are into it, you might publish this on storymash where better authors can comment and even add to it. You can also make a few bucks.
Reply:It isn%26#039;t the character%26#039;s names that are boring - it is the characters themselves. This is showing - not telling. The characterizations are just not there. There is nothing in it that makes me care about these people. They are flat, two dimensional people thrown into a situation as two dimensional paper dolls. Totally lifeless. Uninteresting. It was a chore to read to the end. It was a giant information dump. An overload.

Also, you got off to a very wrong start by using the onomatopoeia as the first sentence. It did nothing to draw me into the story. In fact, it told me immediately I wasn%26#039;t going to like it - that it was shallow and novice.

It needs a lot of work. Start by stopping. Spend time fleshing out your characters - do in depth character studies and really make them living, breathing people. Your dialogue suffers severely because you just don%26#039;t know enough about these people and how they respond in situations. It is dull, uninteresting dialogue - no life in it whatsoever.

I highly recommend you read The First Five Pages. You desperately need to find out how to draw people into your work. Read William Faulkner. There was a man who knew how to grab you by your hair and pull you into his work and not let go until he was ready.

Stephen King says you cannot be a good author until you have become a great reader. I sense that you are not a great reader and that you need to read a whole lot more.

When you have honed and trained yourself so that you are skilled, try a rewrite. But for now, it is just not there.

Defiantly, I remember when I first married we had everything second hand, when we eventually were in a position to replace item by item the tat we had, I got such a feeling of delight and pride, what a shame that in the immediacy of modern day people do not have this sense of achievement.

There is a good example of this in my Family, I have made my own money (I have had to), in the past though my Family has passed wealth down from one generation to another (even if it meant suffering for themselves, they wanted something better for their Children), this worked fine until My Father! A baby boomer he has set about decimating all Family assets for his own gratification so that he leaves his Children and Grandchildren with nothing! My Wife%26#039;s family are the same, living the high life on the money that their Parents passed down! My friends Parents have gone further, getting themselves into debt to fund an extravagant lifestyle that their Children will probably still be paying off when THEY finally retire!

Hard times are comming and alot of people are in for a very big shock, but I doubt even this will counter the selfishness of our society; lets face it, even the Government has sold the Country for their own short term gain! Everyone thinks this attitude fine and actually defend it....

.....the misery won%26#039;t be theirs though, it will just be their legacy!

Imagine you are tooling around town in your Ferrari. It’s your third car. You mostly take it out for Sunday drives. You are crossing some train tracks and the car dies. A train is coming towards you. You notice a switch that will send the train down another track. But seated on the other track is a house filled with starving African refugees. If you throw the switch the refugees will all, die. What do you do?? I would hope you let the train hit the car. But here is the rub. By choosing to buy the car and not using the money to make the world a better place are you not in effect killing the refugees anyway?

I have sent this story to hundreds of people. The response is almost always the same.

Actually the most common response is nothing. But those who do respond usually say I work hard, etcetera, etcetera, I deserve, etcetera, etcetera.

But if you own 3 Ferraris, or even one for that matter, it is as much about luck as it is about deserving. If your are Shaquille Oneal and you were lucky enough to get the genes you got you are just as lucky as the child born to poverty and oppression is unlucky. There is no harder work NO harder life than imposed poverty and NO ONE deserves that life.

Let’s look at it a different way. How much does that 5th Hummer increase the quality of your life? How much more happy are you with that car than you would be with out it? The difference is marginal at best. You probably would not even notice the difference if it was not in the garage. But you do have a 5 car garage and have to keep it filled. How much does it cost to fix a hair lip on a poor little girl in Bolivia, maybe $ 5,000? So instead of spending $ 50,000 on that car and making your life a tiny bit better, why not make 10 lives infinitely better?

I was having lunch with a friend and before we went to lunch we popped into a jewelry store. She has a friend who makes jewelry and she wanted to show it to me. We were looking and I recognized a belt that my friend wears. I asked how much for the belt. The salesperson said $ 5,000. My friend has a $ 5,000 belt!!!

So while we were having lunch I asked my friend how much different her life would be if she did not have the belt. “Not much” she said. Then I asked. “If your granddaughter had a hair lip and you had to sell the belt to fix it what would you do.” She said, “Well I would just take the money out of the bank.” I pointed out that this was all fantasy/hypothesis and that we have to assume that selling the belt is the only way to repair her grand daughter’s hair lip. Then she said. “Of course I would sell the belt, she’s family.” I said. “We are all family. All of us are one family, one human race. It is about compassion knowing that when you buy something extravagant and wasteful you are stealing bread from a starving child. I know it’s hard because we live in an extravagant country. But you have to know this grand and lavish American way of life is one of the main reasons why the rest of the world hates us. And, why they hijack airplanes and crash them into our sky scrapers.” She said, “Well what am I supposed to do?” I wrote this down on a piece of paper and handed it to her. “Live simply so that others may simply live.”

A couple of days later I was thinking about a singer I saw once. His name was T-Buck. He was talking between songs and he said. “You know we worship all kinds of things, money, Jesus, cars, Buddha, Allah, but more than any of those things we should worship each other.” I recently went to the Philippines. It’s amazing what the internet can do. I googled Philippine surf camp, and a week later I was stepping off of a twin propeller, 12 seat airplane onto tiny island in the middle of nowhere, PI. This island is so remote that they can not get many types of heavy machinery there, so they can not make gravel with machines. Instead they use people. The human gravel makers squat on their heels, with hammers and chisels, and break up rocks. They do it 8 hours a day, 6 days a week, with no safety glasses, no protection on their hands, for 25 cents an hour, $ 2 a day. Even though I was half way around the world, on the very cusp of civilization The Catholic Church was everywhere. One evening began with the sound of church bells ringing, and a bit later I could hear the choir too. Then a few hours later a small stream of people trickled into the neighbors place, maybe 20 in all. They ate dinner and then began to sing and pray. As they were singing I was thinking about T-Buck. It suddenly occurred to me that more than anything the world needs “The Church of Each Other”.

So I say that if you have 100 pairs of shoes, $ 10,000 watches, 5 ferraris, etc., you are worshiping yourself, and you lack a certain type of compassion or maybe you just are just conveniently not paying attention. I am not advocating life in a tent. I am just saying to make conscious choices, and don’t be frivolous, and wasteful. You can still have a nice house, a nice car, etc., but just THINK. That’s all just THINK, and be aware that we all are one. And whatever you take for yourself that is more than you what NEED you are taking from someone else.

I would like to close with a quote from Bill Maher.

Remember Beannie Babies??? Diamonds are pretty much the same thing. I used to be in the jewelry business. Jewelry is what is called a created market. The market is driven by perceived value. What that means is that really good marketers make really good ads and they make us gullible consumers think that diamonds, beanie babies, whatever are rare, valuable, and worth a lot of money. Diamonds are a dime a dozen, it just so happens that most of them come from Africa and not that many people mine them. SO, the diamond miners got together about 100 years ago and decided to limit the supply and they did a really great job of marketing. They used to pay MILLIONS of dollars to make movies with big movie stars just so they could have a scene where the Brad Pitt of the day would ask the Angelina Jollie of the day to marry her and he would give her a diamond ring. So now in today’s times Diamonds are Forever, Every Kiss Begins with Kay, and on and on. They do a GREAT JOB!!!! Those are great ads!!!! Have you noticed that the folks who run the Diamonds are Forever ads are the De Beers family. Those are the folks who mine the diamonds. They don’t care where you buy the diamonds, just as long as you buy them. So anyone reading this ever pay over $ 50 for a beanie baby??? Feel kind of silly? Maybe in a 100 years or so people will look back and say, those silly 20th century people used to pay large amount of money for bags of beans and shiny rocks.

And by the way those diamond miners, the De Beers and their friends are the same folks who brought us one hundred years of Apartheid and complete racial domination in South Africa. 100 years of white folks KICKING BLACK ***!!! I am serious, in the last 20 years literally Millions of people in countries like the Congo have been killed in power struggles over diamonds.

im going skiing for the first time in a few months and would like to know, do you wear regular shoes when your not skiing, or should you wear a certain type of shoe or boot for safety reasons? if so are they expensive or is any brand recommended.

9-out-of-10 days I wear my Crocs from the car to the lodge or Patrol room. The parking lots and walkways are almost always plowed. Only once in a while do I need to wear snow clogs or boots. I wouldn%26#039;t wear dress shoes to the resort, but just about anything else is OK.

Somedays I just put my ski boots on at the car and walk right on to the snow.

Definitely not flip-flops.

Get you some high-tops or mid-tops with great support around the ankle. Also, If you can push the back of the shoe just above where the sole connects to the shoe itself, and it gives, don%26#039;t buy - it%26#039;s not supported. It needs to have a firm back.

Also make sure it fits. It%26#039;s not fun having bruised toes/toe nails for the next month.

Sounds dumb but buying socks taking me broke: how do you prevent steel toed shoes from wearing holes in toes?

No matter what I do (thick socks, reinforced toes, cotton nylon vs. cotton only, etc) my steel toed safety shoes wear a hole in my socks on BOTH feet in the big toe area. I%26#039;ve even tried tennis shoe style steel toed shoes (to see if shoe style/type made a difference) and the same thing happens. Is it something you just live with (like dropping toast and having it land butter side down on the floor) or is there a solution? And, no, I do not have long toenails (gross) - I keep them short and maintained. I%26#039;ve talked with co-workers and they have the same problem but didn%26#039;t think anyone else did so lived with it in silence. This is getting expensive in that it occurs rather fast and so you really get no life out of the socks before they need repair; or need to be pitched. Until I was required to wear them I didn%26#039;t know there could be a problem with safety boots/shoes besides additional weight.

Sounds dumb but buying socks taking me broke: how do you prevent steel toed shoes from wearing holes in toes?
Have you tried doubling up on the socks?

Also, hate to say it, but go to the dollar store to buy your socks. At least it will be cheaper.
Reply:I have the same problem as well as holes in the heel. The only solution for me is to wear high-quality %26quot;footie%26quot; socks (like runner%26#039;s socks) underneath cheap pair of crew socks. I might have to try the nylon thing.
Reply:Wow! I never had this problem when wearing such shoes. What if you got a roll of medical tape and put some on your big toes and wore the socks with the holes in them? The toe would be covered and you won%26#039;t be going broke buying new socks every ten minutes.
Reply:I know it sounds kinda funny, but try using a pair of womens panty hose. The ones that just go up your calve, not the full set! (lol) I%26#039;ve worked in the steel industry most of my life, and this seems to work pretty good for me.

NOTE: Will also help to keep your feet warm in the winter.

It may not totally take care of this problem, but it should make your socks last a little longer. Wear the panty hose on the outside of the sock.

The requirement was clearly posted and employees were given a year to learn the language. The EEOC claimed the store had fired two Hispanic employees for continuing to speak Spanish on the job. It said that the firings violated the law because the English-only policy was not %26#039;relevant%26#039; to job performance or safety.%26quot;

So the bottom line is that Pelosi is trying to force, with the power and force of the federal government, she%26#039;s trying to force the Salvation Army to hire people who cannot speak English. Reply:The Salvation Army is a church. They are also private a employer. The Salvation Army thrift stores are run by the Adult Rehabilitation Centers in those communities. They hire only legal residents with proper documentation. They do not fire anyone without at least 3 reprimands. I am not familiar with the policies of the particular thrift store to which you are referring but, obviously this is about something more than just The Salvation Army. If this case ever gets to court they will probably win since they have the resources to hire some very good attorneys.

Should I apply for a Vietnam War Medallion?

The State of Missouri has started a Vietnam War Medallion Program. To get it, all you have to do is submit a form and a copy of a DD 214, which is very easy. I%26#039;m not one for medals and certificates and all that jazz so I was not going to apply. But now I%26#039;m under preasure from my sons and my daughter because they say they want it to keep it within the family archives to show their kids and grand-kids. They have since enlisted some of my friends to help them with the arguement. I tell them all that the medallion and $ .50 just might get me a cup of coffee. Besides, I have a couple of shoe boxes full of that kind of crap and no one has taken interest in any of it until now. I have the form and my 214 is in my safety deposit box. Am I being a hard head or a %26quot;stubborn old goat%26quot; as one son put it?

Should I apply for a Vietnam War Medallion?
Ultimately, the awards and medals awarded to us are not really for us. We know what we did, and most of us know that we could have done it better.

Most people awarded a decoration for bravery will tell you that they were never more scared in their lives. Medals for valor are often issued to people for situations where they were simply doing their best to stay alive and keep their buddies alive with them.

In this case, the people of the State of Missouri feel a need to say %26quot;thank you%26quot; for your service and hold your sacrifice up as an example to others. They are the people who benefit by being given the priviledge to say that %26quot;thank you%26quot; in a formal and proper way. You do them a kindness by taking it, and it is a kindness that costs you very little.

There is the added benefit to your children and grandchildren. Service to anything beyond personal self-interest is rarely taught these days. This is a way you can help them learn something about honor and duty. Those lessons will serve them well, and any opportunity to teach anyone about honor and duty should be taken.

You should be glad that your children and grandchildren want those lessons. You must have done something right with them.

So, swallow your pride and submit the form. To you, it%26#039;s just another brass trinket to toss into the shoebox.

To your children, your grandchildren and to the people of the State of Missouri, it%26#039;s important.

We do a lot for our kids, and now we are in a cycle where service to country is appreciated, do it.

Only official issued medals mind you, not the commemorative in-field self-awarded ones, they tend to clog up history.

I am similar to you as I fought in the Iraq war and thought the exact same thing about the give-outs the military were handing me as I left my service. I could care less. So I took a Saddam dollar and gave it to my daughter along with the coin-medallion thing I got. In hindsight, I should have kept onto it as I%26#039;m divorced and my children may be a bit young to appreciate that gesture... I just didn%26#039;t want it myself and figured it could be something they could remember me by.

My grandfather recently died and my grandmother keeps the folded american flag with his army medals at the base of the television. It is a good way to honor and remember someone whether alive or dead.

I%26#039;d go ahead and get the medallion as they will at least quit nagging you about it. :)

I remember my dad%26#039;s old green army field jacket from nam. I used to wear it a few times until he threw it out. It was totally cool and I wish I still had that thing. Maybe your grandkids will get a kick out of it.
Reply:The state is awarding a medallion now. About 30 years late don%26#039;t you think? Of course, Missouri just apoligized a few years ago for Governor Boggs issuing an extinction order back in the 1830%26#039;s making it legal to kill Mormons. I guess better late than never.

Reply:I like it from a family history perspective. Sure you know you were there, what you did and how you feel about it, but it would be nice for your future generations to have.

My Uncle never talked about WWII until Saving Private Ryan came out (we have a book with a picture of him on D-Day on the beach in the first wave it%26#039;s clearly him, but all he said when we showed it to him was, that%26#039;s not me, I didn%26#039;t help anyone on the beach and I would not have had my helmet off). After he saw Saving Private Ryan, we opened up a bit and it was very interesting. About five years ago I found out he was eligible for a Bronze Star that he never received. We told him were were going to get it for him, he said, %26quot;why do you want to do that?%26quot; Well when we got it we had a little family party (about 30-40 of his nieces and nephews), the Army sent replacements of all his decorations (I had to explain them all to the group). He didn%26#039;t say much, but I think he was proud that the family got to know his story (I don%26#039;t think he cared about the decorations at all though).

Maybe when you get it, your family will take some interest in the other things you have. By I agree ultimately it should be up to you.

Reply:My kids was helping me clean out the shed one day. My oldest daughter opened a box and it had my Dress Blues. The Tunic had all my medals on it and they wanted to know what each one meant. I told her one day I will explain.Well, 15 yrs. went by and my kids never forgot the box. Last month they made a shadow box for my medals, made a collage with photos they found with the Blues and Got me my HONORABLE DISCHARGE put in a frame. Anyone who was a Vet during Vietnam knows how we was treated so I let it slip by with the years. I want you to know I cried when my children did this for me and said %26quot;Thank you Dad!%26quot; I never cared about the medals. I told them about each and every one. My son wears wears my Gold Wings %26amp; Bubble on my old %26quot;O.D. Green%26quot; cover. Let your family know of your service and share with them some of the stories. I have no momentos from my father who died in Vietnam but I have several from the father that adopted me from his service in World War Two. Someone would literally have to take my life before I parted with them. After answering your question I think I will put in for the Cold War Medal, so I will have something to leave my kids. Reply:As a Former Marine, I would say apply for it. The history and legacy you leave your kids and future generations is priceless. My grand Father was a bounty hunter in the old days and I have his six shooter hanging in my living room. That six shooter I am sure meant little to my grandfather in comparison to what it means to me. It means he is here with me. Every time I see it it reminds me of him. Also this six shooter will go to my oldest son. He will remember my grand father and also remember stories I shared of him in our living room. You earned that medal and if you don%26#039;t do it for yourself at least do it for your kids they will appreciate it.

Buying first motorcycle. I need help.?

Hi and thanks. I%26#039;m 6%26#039; 3%26quot; 280 shoe size 10-11.5 depending on the maker. I%26#039;ve looked around at dealerships and online. I%26#039;m taking the Safety Course this summer. I would like to get a cruiser of some kind. I%26#039;m thinking about a used 05 Kawasaki Vulcan 800 or maybe a 06/07 Vulcan 900. Is there anything wrong with these choices? Is there something better out there?

I don%26#039;t really care for Hondas, but I%26#039;m fairly open to everything else. I really don%26#039;t want to spend more than $8000 on the bike. And since it is my first bike I would like something mid sized on power, hence the 800 and 900 choices.

I live in sunny So. Cal. (covina) and would mostly be using this bike to go back and forth to work (about 10 miles ea. way) and to family and friends houses from 5 miles to 100 miles and maybe a Vegas trip (250+ mi.) so it should be comfortable and good for the cruising town and the long haul on the highway.

The 800 series Vulcan%26#039;s are a real good cruiser and a good starter bike for a first time person. If you look at the prices for the used marked you shouldn%26#039;t be anywhere near your $8000 price.

I%26#039;ve been riding an %26#039;03 Mean Streak 1500 and it rides just as well as an 800.

For the guy who wrote about not buying a bike because they are dangerous.

Well facts are facts. Bikes are not dangerous, idiots in 4 wheel vehicles are.

When was the last time you read about a biker who just happened to be driving a 4 wheel vehicle running into a biker? Yeah me neither.

I think it%26#039;s great you are taking an approved (MSF) beginners riding course. You will learn a lot from it, but I hope you will not have to use it. When you build up more riding time on the bike you may want to look into taking the Experienced Riders Course (ERC) also from MSF.

I%26#039;ve ridden over 20,000 miles in the US and the biggest problem to me is you have to be very aggressive in watching out for the unexpected. I now live in England and with smaller roads over here it%26#039;s the same. Be watchful of others.

If theirs anything else I could help you with, you can email me directly. I have several sites for motorcycle safety equipment I can send. I lived in Oklahoma and with 100+ degrees in the summer it%26#039;s not fun wearing leather all the time.

Reply:i would go for the vulcan 900. u will definately need the windsheild and saddlebags if u do a vegas trip, and the slightly heavier weight of the 900 will prove to give a smoother ride.

u%26#039;d be hard pressed to find a different bike like the 900 for 8k or under with what the 900 has stock. saddle bags should be included on any bike not just the touring scoots.

if i were u, i%26#039;d go for a 1 tank trip the first weekend u get to see how the seat is on a long haul. 250 miles isnt all that far. if the saddle makes ya numb only 1/4 of the way, u should get a different seat. makes a huge difference.

Reply:DONT BUY SOMETHING TOO SMALL. You will be looking for something bigger within a year. I bought a 2002 harley lowrider in 02. I hadnt been on a bike in 11 years. I am 5%26#039;10%26quot; 160 pounds and I had no problem handling this bike. I, like you, was worried it might be to much bike for me. It wasn%26#039;t and I would have been sick had I gotten something smaller. By the way, the 02 harley has a 1450 engine on it and weighs about 650 pounds. Someone else gave me this same advice and I was glad they did.
Reply:One thing I will comment on regarding the Kawasaki Vulcans. I have an 85 Vulcan and the earlier bikes are notorious for burning out stators. Given the bikes don%26#039;t have a breakaway frame on the left hand side, the motor has to be almost completely removed to change it out. Check with some current owners as to the reliability of the newer models.

I%26#039;m 6%26#039; 230 with the same shoe size and I cruise no problem with the 700/750. Very good gas mileage as well.
Reply:You have the right idea, however, you should go sit on one for fit as well. If almost good then perhaps all you need is a handlebar or seat swap to make it perfect,

Do not bother with more power at this point - work on skills - a skilled rider will always beat a guy with just a fast bike and no skills - I know - I live for those moments!

Reply:I%26#039;m likely to get flamed for this... but a %26quot;standard%26quot; or %26quot;sportbike%26quot; is safer because they are generally lighter, handle better, more ground clearance, have better brakes and acceleration. You can more likely get yourself out of a bad situation. How about an FZ1 or something of that sort.

Reply:Go and check the shops for the BIKES YOU LIKE. There is nothing wrong with a 750 to 1600 (just make sure u can lift the bike by yourself). Sit on them and check handle bars, seat height and controls. If u do not feel comfortable from the get go, disregard that bike. If you need to change anything on the bike to fit u, don%26#039;t even think about getting it. It will never feel right (been there, got t-shirt). Windshield and saddle bags u can always add after choosing your bike (if the bike does not come with it). When u start riding your bike and get butt numbness/hot spots, get an airhawk. My .02 worth. I am 6%26#039;2%26quot; 230.
Reply:Check the size of that gas tank, and the mileage. I don%26#039;t know about a 250 mile range - that%26#039;d be pretty high, even on a motorcycle with an outsized gas tank.

I drive a 2004 FLHTCUI(HD) and pull a pop up camper, have had 6 FLHT(HD) and pulled 3 diff type trailers. Will see u down the road good luck! o-yes ask ????????? talk to us old timers, as they say, been there done that!! a KW 900 Valcan is nice. have owned a KW 1300 back in 1987 6 cylinder with all the bells(even a light when the kickstand was down). also go to the dealers and set on the deff bikes, flash a little $$$ they may have a demo or rent bike u can test ride. alot of bike runs have folkes there given demo rides. check ur local bike clubs/deaders, easysrider mag and others go to a bike run. o-yes don%26#039;t forget the leather, good boots, head gear. well i can go on and on but as i said ask??? read. How can I keep the neighbors dogs out of my yard?

The neighbors dog comes into our yard to poop. Usually right infront of my daughters swing set and it actually jumped our patio fence and came all the way into our house through doggie doors.

We informed the owner and she just says that the dog annoys her and she wants to get rid of it but hasnt and still lets the dog roam free around the town.

We want to stay civil since we live next door to each other but im tired of cleaning poo off my shoe everytime I walk through our back yard.

We talked the town cop and he says he can not do anything about it inless he catches the dog off the property.

Our area of town does not allow privacy fences to be built and the dog can jump over anything 3 feet tall.

We put up an electric wire around the patio for the winter so he would not jump over and enter our house but for safety reasons we removed it when summer came. (We have a 3 year old)

How do we keep this dog off our property? Without hurting the dog or making enemies.

How can I keep the neighbors dogs out of my yard?
Keep a record book of all the times the dog has been loose. I would also suggest if you do not already own a video camera to buy one and tape the dog running loose.

I wouldn%26#039;t worry about making enemies, obviously the neighbor doesn%26#039;t care what her dog is doing in your yard.

What does the word patent mean to you? Does it strike you as being something rather remote from your interests? If it does, stop and think a moment about some of the common-place things that you use every day, objects that you take for granted as part of the world around you. The telephone, radio, television, the automobile, and the thousand and one other things (even the humble safety pin) that enrich our lives today once existed only as ideas in the minds of men. If it had not been possible to patent their ideas and thus protect them against copying by others, these inventions might never have been fully developed to serve mankind.

If there were no patent protection there would be little incentive to invent and innovate, for once the details of an invention became known, hordes of imitators who did not share the inventor’s risks and expenses might well flood the market with their copies of his product and reap much of the benefit of his efforts. The technological progress that has made America great would wither rapidly under conditions such as these.

The fundamental principles in the U. S. patent structure came from England. During the glorious reign of Queen Elizabeth I in England, the expanding technology was furthered by the granting of exclusive manufacturing and selling privileges to citizens who had invented new processes or tools- a step that did much to encourage creativity. Later, when critics argued that giving monopoly rights to one person infringed on the rights of others, an important principle was added to the patent structure: The Lord Chief Justice of England stated that society had everything to gain and nothing to lose by granting exclusive privileges to an inventor, because a patent for an invention was granted for something new that society never had before.

Another basic principle was brought into law because certain influential people in England had managed to obtain monopoly control over such age-old products as salt, and had begun charging as much as the traffic would bear. The public outcry became so great that the government was forced to decree that monopoly rights could be awarded only to those who created or introduced something really unique. These principles are the mainstays of our modern patent system in the United States.

In colonial times patent law was left up to the separate states. The inconsistency, confusion, and unfairness that resulted clearly indicated the need for a uniform patent law, and the men who drew up the Constitution incorporated one. George Washington signed the first patent law on April 10, 1790, and less than four months later the first patent was issued to a man named Samuel Hopkins for a chemical process, an improved method of making potash for use in soap making.

In 1936 the Patent Office was established as a separate bureau. From the staff of eight that it maintained during its first year of operation it has grown into an organization of over 2500 people handling more than 1600 patent applications and granting over 1000 every week.

The Patent Office in Washington, D. C., is the world’s largest library of scientific and technical data, and this treasure trove of information is open for public inspection. In addition to more than 3 million U. S. patents, it houses more than 7 million foreign patents and thousands of volumes of technical literature. Abraham Lincoln patented a device to lift steam vessels over river shoals, Mark Twain developed a self-pasting scrapbook, and millionaire Cornelius Vanderbilt invented a shoe-shine kit.

A patent may be granted for any new and useful process, machine, article of manufacture, or composition of matter (a chemical compound or combinations of chemical compounds), or any distinct and new variety; of plant, including certain mutants and hybrids.

The patent system has also helped to boost the wages of the American worker to an unprecedented level; he can produce more and earn more with the computer, adding machines, drill press or lathe. Patented inventions also help keep prices down by increasing manufacturing efficiency and by stimulating the competition that is the foundation of our free enterprise system.

The decades of history have disclosed little need for modification of the patent structure. Our patent laws, like the Constitution from which they grew, have stood the test of time well. They encouraged the creative processes, brought untold benefits to society as a whole, and enabled American technology to outstrip that of the rest of the civilized world.

Last month My daughters told me ex-wife mother%26#039;s boyfriend kissed then with his tongue. I told this to ex-wife, she got very angree at me, and the kids. made a report with child protective agency, and a police report. got a call from ex telling me I%26#039;m causing trouble and how can I take there words for it. She violated my visitation right by not showing me the kids. I get to see my kids twice a month. I request to see them next month with the dates. she agreed them I got slapped with a TRO. I want to file a TRO on her for the safety of my kids, but I don%26#039;t have any custody custody for my daughters. Forget the TRO on your ex.... She is not the main concern, for the safety of your children..It is her boyfriend....If what your children say is true, you need to keep on contacting the police. You need to get him away from the children before it goes any farther....
Reply:Since your ex-wife does not believe the children, she will do nothing to remove the boyfriend and the threat to the children. You have already contacted the child protective agency, so you have done what you could there. Your best bet would be to file a motion to modify child custody and bring the situation to the court%26#039;s attention.
Reply:I agree with legal eagle. The problem with a TRO is it is, by definition, temporary. You should retain an attorney and go to court to modify custody. Your greatest problem is proof. How old are your children? Will they tell a judge what happened? There%26#039;s is no %26quot;magic%26quot; age that makes a child qualified to be a witness. I%26#039;ve represented probably close to 100 children in court over the last 27 years. The court will only want your child or children to tell the Judge that she knows the difference between a lie and the truth. (I don%26#039;t think both of the daughters need to testify--one will suffice). This has to be handled cautiously. If your wife gets to the children before you get into court, she may be able to threaten them into lying. A good attorney can get your daughter to reveal that threat. What your daughters told you is hearsay, although there are exceptions and it can probably be admitted. However, your statement about what your daughters said is not enough evidence. Building a legal case is analogous to building a wall--1 brick (piece of evidence) at a time makes a strong case. While throwing the shoe is not very significant alone, it%26#039;s another brick in the wall. Timing is crucial to your case. If what your daughters said is true, the sexual abuse will escalate. Please see a good family law attorney for at least a consultation to plan an effective strategy. Have you tried your state%26#039;s version of child protective services? They could interview the children at school without your ex knowing about it until it%26#039;s over. That would be a good way to build the evidence. It takes a different level of legal skill to effectively question a child in court. Please see an attorney.

my son(teen) was verbally assualted and threatened with bodily injury at an Academy store that he works at. This escalated while other employees/ mgr standing by. Can this customer be sued to teach him a lesson not to treat people this way. This was all over a shoe not being in stock. The man thought my son just didn%26#039;t want to get it down. How responsible is academy for the safety of it%26#039;s employees?

Customer can be charged with assault. The employer can be held liable for doing nothing about this...most Equity Laws cover this.

Reply:Well a lot of retail stores operate under the customer is always right theory and don%26#039;t like to upset customers no matter how offensive they are. They also have the responsibility of protecting your son from physical abuse.

I don%26#039;t think you can sue the customer for being verbally abusive, but I would have filed a police report. I am sure the store doesn%26#039;t want you to go this route, but I would get it documented. No one gets paid enough to put up with that kind of abuse.

I think if the customer had to explain to the cops why he acted like an idiot because a shoe was out of stock I am sure he would feel like one also.

I am glad your son wasn%26#039;t hurt, but let him know that he is not responsible for the actions of others, he is only responsible for how he reacts to them.

Why does he demand hugs from me every 10 minutes and ask to hang out every day. After dating him for a month, he told me %26quot;your not the one for me%26quot;. Glenn Beck told the story on his shoe today. This woman whose first name is Irina manged to smuggle children out of the ghetto to safety. She was later captured and tortured but she survived the regime and later worked to reuinite the children with their Jewish families. Glenn said she was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize but she lost to Al Gore. This is what I recall from the radio show. I would like to share the story with my children.

2 or 1 years ago, i got lost in disneyland, It was SCARY,

It was the 50th anniversary and it was at night and it was the last day. so every one was rushing to see the fire works and I bent down and told my mum to wait because I was tieing my shoe and obviously she didn%26#039;t like me or she didnt hear me and she walked off leaving me in the middle of disneyland BY MY SELF, I started crying and all that, next thing I know this girl from england grabbed my hand and took me to a safety person, and she radiod another safety person and then guess what, my mum found my we were both crying hard and we hugged, It was the SCARRIEST day of my life and that was when I was !!!!9-10!!!

Once when i ws in elementary school, i would have to wait for my sisters so one of them would pick me up and i would walk home with them. Once my older sister who ws 5 years older than me and the other ws 4 years older than me. They used to take turns in picking me up. One day it ws report card day, and clearly neither of my sisters got a very good mark. So the younger one passed by me and i stood so that i would walk come with her, but she said %26quot; no, it%26#039;s the other%26#039;s turn today.%26quot; So i believed her and sat down waiting for my other sister. When the other came she just repeated what my younger sister said and left me sitting ALL ALONE in the school yard waiting for one of them to show up. I was 8 years old, and i stayed waiting from 2:00 in the afternoon till 8:00 at night when my mom showed up from her work and discovered that i was left ALL ALONE!!!

That was 6 years ago, and I%26#039;m still holding a grudge for it.

Detective Ronran noticed on Katie%26#039;s body welts that were obviously the result of a recent assault. The marks on her body had a pattern to them and Officer Tyran asked with what was she hit. Katie replied that she had been hit with a belt and possibly the buckle as well as a shoe. Detective Ronran attempted several times to take a photograph with a digital camera but was unable to do so because of a camera and disk malfunction.

Officer Ferguson spoke to Katie about the belt and shoe and Katie went to the master bedroom, opened the bedroom door and went inside. Officer Ferguson followed and Katie gathered up two belts and a sandle that were on the floor and placed them on the bed. Detective Ronran followed to get a better look at the items.

While inside the bedroom, Detective Ronran noticed that the closet and bathroom doors were closed. Detective Ronran believed %26quot;that it was in his best interest for [his] protection and the protection of others that these two areas behind the doors were cleared and safe. [His] concern for his safety was heighten[ed] after learning that Katie was evasive in giving information about her father%26#039;s whereabouts.%26quot;

I opened the closet door and checked the immediate visible area. I then checked behind the open door and noticed on the floor two cases of ammunition and one green metal army ammo case. When I focused my vision on the opening of the bag, I observed what appeared to be the front sights of rifles. These sights were not the standard beaded post sights, but sights that were common on known assault rifles. From where I was standing I could not tell if they were real or if they were toys. I moved into the closet and got a closer look into the bag through the opening. At this time, I observed metal barrels, wooden stocks and %26quot;banana%26quot; style magazines. I felt confident that the weapons were real. I left the items as I found them and went to secure the bathroom.

It appeared that after I had opened the closet door, Katie left the room as if we were going to find something or someone.

Upon finding these items, Detective Ronran informed all present of the items and announced that he needed to call a supervisor because of the seriousness of the situation.

Captain Merriman arrived and decided that the weapons be removed from the residence. Also, the officers determined that Taylor had been previously convicted of a misdemeanor involving domestic violence and was in illegal possession of the firearms as a prohibited person under Title 18, United States Code, Section 922(g)(9).

Prior to trial, the defense counsel for Taylor moved to suppress the firearms and ammunition that were seized from his apartment. Discuss the legal principles that would apply to this motion to suppress and how the court should rule.
